Building a Fort

Earlier this year, FifeX finished a new exhibition in one of the casemates at Fort George.

If you haven't been to Fort George, it's an amazing place - its size is mind-blowing and as well as being a visitor attraction, it is also a functioning army barracks for the Black Watch.

The new exhibition is incredibly well researched and features some fascinating facts about the Fort, its design and how it was used. We also developed some interactives as part of the exhibition, one of which you can see on the right.

2016 is its first summer season and our mid-season inspection yesterday showed it to be holding up well so far. If you haven't been, get up there!

All Flooded Up

FifeX was delighted to work on a fun project with SEPA, designing and developing some small shapes to go with one of their outreach flooding challenges.

Our solution was to create a range of fun shapes in 2D material which users could place on a map - the shapes showed things like flooded cars, buses, houses, broken trees and even sewage problems!

The SEPA roadshow is up and running!

First Class!

FifeX has been busy busy busy this Spring with a range of projects up and down the country - so we're way behind with our news posts - there are a few to catch up on. First off, congratulations to Kirsty Simpson, who we've been working with on a fantastic project for young children - she's just received a first-class honours award for her project and we were delighted to be involved. The small, tactile product uses some neat electronics in a 3D printed shell, which is then wrapped up in bright colours for its users. Good luck Kirsty and keep up the good work!

More Imagining

Earlier in the year we did some upgrading work on NMS' gallery 'Imagine'. Before the year was out, there were a few other things to be added and some more shapes to play with!

If you're looking for somewhere to take small people during the holiday season, the Imagine gallery is refreshed and ready to go... Have Fun!

Floating in Selfridges

The end of the year has seen some great projects like this one - we were contacted by a great Creative Partnership from London called Isabel and Helen who were putting together some shop-front displays for Selfridges called 'Millions + Billions'. On this project, we were simply supplying the electronics to make the small Earth model hover - you can see more of the project here.

A World of Makers

The last few weeks have seen FifeX make a link with Makeworks who are tracking and logging a list of all of Scotland's designers and makers. We are pleased to be on the list and have been profiled for their website. If you want a look at what we do with some footage of us all at work, have a look at our profile here.

The picture on the right was taken just before they left and shows us outside our unit.
