Discovering Lost Lighthouses

We are very pleased to have heard from a good friend of ours who has just been visiting the Fraserburgh Lighthouse Museum. We were delighted to find out that our lighthouse exhibits, which were originally made for NMS in Edinburgh, are still going strong in Fraserburgh and she set up quite a nice demo of the Fresnel lens on our 'Bright Enough' exhibit to show us!

Table-top Power Generation

FifeX is working on a two-part project for Northamptonshire County Council and the first part has already been completed - a table-top hand generator. We've built a few things that are similar to this in the past and it's still one of the most popular interactive exhibits that we make!

Watch this space for news about their energy bike which is in progress at the moment!

Biomass Green Screen

FifeX is finishing off some final touches on the TREE project ready for the official opening.

One of the exciting things about the TREE building is its biomass boiler and the fact that all the elements of it are on show to the visitors. FifeX has just put in a lovely green screen to keep it safe from visitors but allow people to see what is going on. If you ever visit the centre, there is a graphic panel which describes the biomass process from beginning to end - you should check it out!

Early morning start @ Glasgow Science Centre

The FifeX team was in action again this week, moving the 'Vision For The Future' exhibition down to Glasgow Science Centre for a wee stint down there. We've done quite a bit of work on the ferrofluids and you can see the results here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0OF8AZVNfF4&feature=youtu.be

The picture on the right is the Magnetism Table which now houses some small ferrofluid cells as well as the centre piece ferro display.

The exhibition is in Glasgow for the next 6 - 8 weeks before moving back to Satrosphere in Aberdeen.

You can follow us on Facebook or Twitter if you're interested in any more of our videos!

T.R.E.E. Centre Doors Open

September 15th 2013 saw the official opening of the T.R.E.E. Centre in Markinch. FifeX has been in working on this exhibition project for some time and it was finally opened to the public yesterday for a preview day before the VIP opening in October.

Designed by FifeX and Stuco the exhibition comes in the form of 5 separate units, each one comprising a range of activities - we'll be updating the site very soon to include more detail on all of the activities and lots of photos!

The first day saw lots of smiling faces and some very positive reviews - and hopefully there will be lots more of that to come! The centre is available for visits by schools, clubs, societies and anyone who is interested - read more about it here: http://www.thetreecentre.org/.

Something Old, Something New

Jigsaws always seem to be a popular activity and we get asked to make them time and time again. On our latest jigsaw game, we printed straight onto plywood and then laser-cut the pieces to create a really tough jigsaw. These were also A2 size so they're pretty big! You can see these in action in the REME Museum of Technology.

Getting Spritzed up!

FifeX has just completed a bar for a large event in Brighton. Ever tried Aperol? Well the Aperol Spritz cocktail is making its way round the country and they wanted a HUGE bar to keep the bottles in!

The bar on the right is double-sided, about 6m long and 4m tall. It splits into 7 distinct sections for transporting and can house quite a few bottles of Aperol.

Follow their events through their twitter feed: https://twitter.com/AperolSpritzUK

A month of 3D printing!

Well that's now about a month since FifeX acquired a makerbot 3D printer and it's seen fairly constant use. We've been building everything from cable clips and boxes for Arduinos to usb pen holders and plastic tokens for a project we're working on - we've even been working on some prototypes for a packaging company. This picture on the right is a little LCD we are using that has been nicely mounted in a bright orange 3D printed stand. If you would like to 3D print something - you know where we are!

New-look website

Hi there everyone and welcome to the new-look FifeX website. We are hoping to bring you more pictures of our latest work and also more up-to-date news via this blog. There's lots going on at FifeX and lots of exciting new projects - stay tuned!

Buzzin' round the city!

FifeX has just completed a new buzzwire game for Nottinghamshire County Council - this latest version of the game allows users to make their way along a choice of roads and encounter the hazards associated with each one.

The product has gone down well with Notts Council - we're hoping to work with them again soon :)
